DJ PIERRE
DJP Records, Chicago

Back in the days when acid was just a tab, DJ Pierre was holed up in his Chicago bedroom creating a sound which would impact the dance music scene down to the genetic level: House Music. Spartan and viscerally invasive, this disco-stripped-of-disco-trappings was just beginning to reverberate in the club underground when a tweak accident changed everything. Call it synth-abuse or creative lighting, but in DJ Pierre’s hands the Roland TB-303—originally a bass guitar synthesizer/sequencer—had become a weapon. Phuture—DJ Pierre’s highly successful guise with fellow squelchers Spanky and Herb J—released their epic “Acid Trax” and House Music’s evil twin, Acid House, was born and House Music History was written. Twenty years later Acid is as edgy and fresh as ever, rattling bass bins, melting iPods and inspiring a new generation of fans, producers and DJs the world over.

Not many artists in the history of dance music can list Carl Cox, Diesel (X-Press 2), Junior Vasquez, Danny Tenaglia, Michael Mayer (Kompakt Records), Bob Sinclar, and Tom Stephan (Superchumbo) as fans. Not many can claim responsibility for helping kick start the careers of Felix Da Housecat and Roy Davis Jr. Not many can lay claim to giving birth to a genre and pioneering a sound that had the whole world dancing and imitating for over fifteen years. DJ/Producer/Remixer, Nathaniel Pierre Jones a.k.a. DJ “Wildpitch” Pierre is of a rare breed.

“Afro Acid is a culmination of Acid, Garage, Wild Pitch, Disco, Techno, Electro and Rock. It’s a new approach to making house music and DJing it. It’s about inclusion and fusing together multiple elements of music to get the ultimate club experience! That’s who I am as a producer and a DJ.”

GLENN UNDERGROUND
Urban Heirs, Chicago

He comes from a family of musicians and was raised on disco classics & freeform jazz in Chicago’s Southside, the place where house music was born. Since 1984 G.U. has been playing & supporting house music in Chicago and has been producing his own brand of House (& Dance music) since about 86-87 until now. Taking inspiration from Chicago’s original pioneers, Larry Heard, Ron Hardy, Lil’ Louis, and the like, Glenn has produced some of the most well respected deep house music ever made. With countless hit releases on dozens of labels, his work has set the standard for sophisticated dance music. He has rocked his sound in the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Canada, all the while adding to his already enormous fan base. Bottom line: Glenn Underground is the pinnacle when it comes to deep,
jazzy house music. His work speaks for itself. We are thrilled to present this true house music legend to you in his 1st ever Philadelphia performance.

“I got this name from my friends. They would ask me how DEEEP my house
music was, and I would say that it was under the ground.”

RON CARROLL
Body Music, Chicago

Starting off his career in the early 1980’s spinning at his own dance club The Bangin’ Enterprize on the South Side of Chicago, Ron Carroll, just two years into the game, was opening for Lil’ Louis, Mike Dunn, and the legendary Ron Hardy. In 1994 a working friendship with his musical mentor Little Louie Vega gave him the chance to write a Billboard #1 Dance Hit “I Get Lifted” for Barbara Tucker. He has worked with Destiny’s Child, Adeva, Kim English, Kathy Brown, and many others. His work has achieved double platinum status. His record label, Body Music, has been knocking out hit after hit since 2001. He received the 2004 House Music Award for his production, “Back Together” and recently produced “I’m Feelin’ You” feat. Ce Ce Peniston. Rumors of his amazing DJ sets leaving listeners in tears have circulated the globe and Ron just continues down his path of musical success, helping others reach their goals along the way. Don’t dare miss this Legendary producer, vocalist, songwriter, and DJ in his 1st ever Philadelphia performance.

“The only way you can make it in the music world is keeping your faith and trust in God and never ever do wrong to anyone, because they do wrong to you. Evil for evil never works”.

Christy Love began djing in San Francisco in the mid 90’s. Legends
like Cajmere, Paul Johnson, Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak have all
played a heavy influence on her trademark style of funky, deep and
tech house with bass-heavy beats and inspirational vocals. STANK,
Christy Love and W. Jeremy’s weekly house party at mr. Black in
NYC, spawned AFRO ACID: The Chicago Sessions, the first series of
AFRO ACID parties with their partner, DJ Pierre.

“A great party must have fun people, a warm vibe and amazing music, and that’s what Afro Acid is to me.”

Lawrenzo a.k.a. DJ Express

Come and pay homage to one of the founding fathers of the Lehigh Valley’s underground scene. Lawrenzo is the founder and owner the Undaground Set, the original and largest Hip-Hop/EDM clothing and record store on the East Coast. Coming from a family where his mother, aunts and uncles were DJs, Lawrenzo displayed his natural musical talent at the age of 14 spinning weddings. His arsenal of expertise includes House, Hip-Hop, R & B and all forms of EDM, which some say makes him a DJ’s DJ. This versatility allows him to perform with such noted entertainers as The Sugar Hill Gang, Goldie, Ani, Halo & Hipp-E, Terry Mullan, Sammie, Goodwill, East Coast Boogiemen, The A-Team, Trevor Lamont, Freedom, Trace, Karl K, O’Keef, Rob Paine, Willyum, Javate, Imri, Cornflake, Ulises, Matt Bandy, Dave Ralph, Michael Myers, Eternal, Carl Michaels, and Faust & Shortee. You may have heard his tantalizing beats at clubs like Razzels, The FreightYard, Orpheus, Sonic Boom, Casa Blanca, and his own club Home Grown/Chess Club, or moved to his extraordinary sounds in Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, New York, Ohio, DC, Kentucky, Detroit, and Texas. Tonight, Philadelphia will get to hear his unique talent, as his mind-blowing set of house is guaranteed to stun the crowd. You never know what he’s going to drop next, but you know its going to melt your eardrums, make you move, and leave you wanting more. Wu Wuu Wu

“Life to me is the Greatest thing we can experience and I try to enjoy situations that come from it. From meeting new people, to dancing like your ass is on fire, to helping people you do and don’t know, to sending a contagious smile across the room. I try to enjoy it to the fullest, cause I never know when Life will end.”

DJ FREEDOM
Wiggle Productions, Philadelphia

He attributes his love for house music to his father, who is from Chicago, playing his LPs for him and taking him to the skating rink when he was just 2 years old, and to his mother who worked as a songwriter. As a child he played the drums and his love for beats progressed into DJing. In 1992 he began playing at house parties and working for DJ companies, but was always drawn back to underground house music. In 1996 he was formally introduced into the Philadelphia underground and began spinning at events in Philly, NJ, and Maryland. In 1998 he got the chance to play at Space Nightclub and was soon recruited by fellow veteran DJs Wiggle Productions. Quickly gaining a massive following in the underground as well as the deep house scene, Freedom has been a positive force for dance music since then. His deep and funky style of house music has never been duplicated. Now in the studio, and at the drawing board for some stellar events, DJ Freedom is continuing his productions and performances for the love of true house music. Don’t miss your chance to hear one of the most innovative figures in House music today.

“Freedom is about following your dreams even when they say it can’t be done. I believe in staying positive and optimistic…pushing forward, knowing that all things are possible…”

JEFF HEART

With increased worldwide exposure in the rave market of underground dance music, Jeff Heart has been widely recognized as a Hard House pioneer of the East Coast, USA. Only the past 7 years have brought this acclaimed status, but what many have forgotten to realize is that Heart’s roots lay embedded within the deep house genre in which he first began. In a time long ago, daily promo servicing from record labels like Strictly Rhythm, Nervous, Twisted, Henry St, MAW, helped pave a road to Jeff’s early years as a club DJ. With the ability, knowledge and the arsenal of his deep underground track selectons, old and new, Jeff is going to throw down a style of house that has been well overdue for him. True househeads should not miss this late nite set as it will once again show you why Jeff is considered among the worlds most experienced and diversity capable DJs.

“When I was growing up, I never in a million years thought I would be an entertainer trying to make a name for myself in the music industry. I collected so much music through the years that one day, after listening to local radio mix dance shows, I bought some belt drive turntables and it just sort of happened. While led to this career by what feels like an unpredicted fate, and seeing the energy that I can create for a crowd of people, along with the positive emotions it provides me, I wouldn’t trade it in for the world!
Music is truly the ultimate high.”
